Welcome to the Department of Theology

Rev. Dr. Justice Anquandah Arthur, Head, Department of Theology

I am excited to welcome you to the Theology Department of the School of Theology, Mission and Leadership (STML) of Pentecost University.

This Department, which is as old as the University itself has a pedigree of impressive academic capacity and resourcefulness. We have since our establishment, educated almost all the minsters of the Church of Pentecost who has been called to full-time ministry within that period, as well as high profile leaders of other churches and para-church organisations.

Currently, the programmes available in the Department include a Higher Education Certificate in Theology Bachelor of Arts in Theology and a Master of Arts in Pentecostal Studies. As a cognate Department to the Department of Mission and the Department of Leadership, we enable you to access courses in both departments to expand your scope of knowledge.

The Master of Theology in Pentecostal Studies is uniquely designed to, besides exposing students to the classical disciplines in Theology, courses within the programme trigger the student’s interest to explore new dimensions of Pentecostal ecclesiology. Being mindful of the inability of some of our potential students’ who may be leading churches or parachurch organisations, to leave their offices/work stations for an extended period, we have structured our Master’s programme into a modular form that is flexible enough to respond to your busy schedule.  The duration of each Masters programmes is 2 years comprising four blocks of 12 examinable courses and a dissertation. There are 3 blocks of 6 weeks’ duration each year, with a stress-free framework for revision and examinations.

The Bachelor of Theology programmes are well structured to help students establish a solid foundation in Theology and stimulate their interest in further theological education. The courses are carefully chosen not only to help students engage with traditional concepts in theology but also expose them to new trends in contemporary society, which provide the context for their ministry. In view of the fact that many of our potential students for the BA in Theology degree programme share are in similar circumstances like our Masters students, we have also structured the courses in a modular form. This is made up of 12 blocks in all, with 3 blocks occurring each of the four years. Each block lasts for 7 weeks, with a hassle-free revision and examination period factored into it.

The Higher Education Certificate in Theology has been carefully crafted to respond to the needs of the numerous congregation members, who desire to deepen their knowledge in Theology, and to enhance their ability to communicate such knowledge more effectively. This is also a modular programme that is mounted as part of the evening school programmes available at PU. In addition, we are willing to bring this programme to the doorstep of any Area, District or Assembly of The Church of Pentecost and other denominations that can raise a sizeable number of students, and provide adequate facilities for an effective classroom experience.

Our Faculty comprises a seasoned selection of lectures of various evangelical traditions who help the students to appreciate our rich diversity. Our library resources are remarkable with over 4000 volumes, and it might interest you to note that the library is digitised to make it accessible to students anywhere on the globe. In addition, we have world-class online academic databases at such prestigious sites as EBSCO host, SAGE, etc.

Our facilities are in excellent condition and the academic community is such a supportive family that would give you the student an experience of a lifetime.

Once again, you are warmly welcome to the Department of Theology at PU – STML.
