PENTECOST UNIVERSITY HOLDS LAST CONVOCATION FOR THE YEAR 2023
Pentecost University held its last convocation for the year 2023 at the University’s main campus in Sowutuom, Accra. This took place on Friday 8th December 2023. Convocation is a statutory requirement where the Vice-Chancellor gives the state of affairs as well as plans of the ensuing year to senior members of the University.
In his address, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Kwabena Agyapong-Koudua thanked the members of convocation for their hard work and dedication to the University in the course of the year 2023.He said, “this year has been very eventful for our university, and on behalf of the Chancellor, Aps. Eric Nyamekye and the University Council, I want to thank you all for the hard work and dedication to the University.”
Speaking further, the VC highlighted a few successes chalked by the University and some individual staff members in the year under review. He congratulated seven faculty and staff members who obtained PhDs in diverse academic fields in the year under review. He also highlighted strategic appointments and promotions that contributed to the sustained growth of the University within the year.
On infrastructure, Prof. Agyapong-Kodua said efforts at creating a world class physical environment conducive for research, teaching and learning will be consolidated in the coming years. He gave a vivid account of progress of work on the ongoing grand lecture theatre and assured that it will be ready for use by next month. He added that the PU campus redevelopment plan and construction of a 3000-capacity student hostel facility are still high on the agenda.
Speaking on Research@PU, the VC said the University secured two major grants earlier in the year to support and promote research through PhD studies. He cited the European Commission grant of 2.69 million euro won by the University and partners, intended to recruit PhD students for research into the application of Artificial Intelligence (AI), Cyber-Physical Systems, Robotics, Laser technologies and Life Cycle modelling for eco-efficient manufacturing of electric vehicle components.
Other areas addressed by the VC included PU’s expansion to Sunyani in the Bono Region called Pentecost University, Agape Campus, support from The Church of Pentecost, student enrollment among others. He also spoke about continued support to the PU campuses, as well as sister institutions in South Africa , US and the UK.
