Hult Prize launched in PUC

The Hult Prize Competition has been launched in Pentecost University College to offer students the opportunity to deliver social change in their respective communities.

The Hult Prize was established by Bertil Hult, and is an annual, year-long competition that crowd-sources ideas from MBA and college students after challenging them to solve a pressing social issue around topics such as food security, water access, energy and education. The Hult family – founders of EF Education First – donates USD 1million in seed capital to help the winning team launch a social enterprise. The prize is a partnership between Hult International Business School and the United Nations Foundation.

Pentecost University College got involved through the efforts of Joseph Kofi Yeboah of the Nursing Department. The benefit for PUC, if students do excel in the Competition, is that the school gets international exposure as the students will be competing in the name of the University College.

The Rector of PUC, in his opening remarks, lauded the efforts of the organizers for choosing the campus of PUC for the event. This will provide a platform for students to showcase their prowess and talents and create businesses alongside their academic studies.

This year’s theme was “Can we build bold businesses that have a positive impact on our planet with every sale completed, a dollar earned, and decisions made?”. Participants are challenged to come up with business ideas targeted at solving societal challenges.

How can students participate?

Form a group between three to five and come up with a plan to solve this year’s theme question. Every year there is a theme question read by the Former President of the United States of America, Bill Clinton.
