Here Arises The Daniels, Here Arises The Esthers

#GhanaMonth

A poem for Ghana by Mr. Reginald Arthur-Mensah Jnr, Mr. Francis Elikem Kosi Mawusi and Mrs. Anita Addo-Tara.

Department of Nursing and Midwifery, Pentecost University

Medical-Surgical Department, Korle Bu Teaching Hospital

Department of Communication, Pentecost University

In every curve, in every turn, there is a magic moment waiting for its citizens

The adventures of city life, the calmness of the countryside, the scenes of rich cultural display, the view of green vegetation along the countryside, the diversity of wildlife, the hub of precious minerals, the marvel of the sea, the experience of sunshine, the experience of rainfall and the sight of beautiful women and handsome men; This is Mother Ghana.

From Gold Coast to Ghana

From Aflao to Axim

From Keta to Cape Coast

From Bolgatanga to Accra

We tell a story

The story of dark days to glorious days

The story of colonialism to freedom

The story of tyranny to the commonwealth; This is Mother Ghana.

In the voice of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah,

“I am in the knowledge that death can never extinguish the torch which I have lit in Ghana and Africa. Long after I am dead and gone, the light will continue to burn and be borne aloft, giving light and guidance to all people”.

This was the Prophesy

This was the vision

It put love and resilience in the hearts of its citizens

It bound all spirits in one accord

It united all minds with one purpose

We stood our grounds and said, “We shall be the stars of Africa, we shall be the light to be pointed at”.

And here we are, 65 years on, we are the beacon of peace in the whole world; This is Mother Ghana.

Yes, we experience corruption

Yes, we experience politicalization

Yes, we experience “pull him/her down syndrome”

Yes, we experience hate

Yes, we experience deception

Yes, we experience lies

Yes, we have challenges; This is Mother Ghana.

But, here arises the change makers

Here arises those with excellent spirits

Here arises those with knowledge

Here arises those with understanding of the times and seasons

Here arises those with prudence

Here arises those who will solve hard issues

Here arise those who will dream dreams and execute them

Here arises those who will see visions and accomplish them

Here arises those with light

Here arises the doers

Here arises the legacy

Here arises the Daniels

the Josephs

and the Esthers

We shall work to eradicate corruption

We shall work to stop politicalization

We shall work to have a green Ghana

We shall work for best health care

We shall work for quality education

We shall work to reduce unemployment

We shall work till the country is a haven

We shall strive to thrive

For God and country

Pray for the peace of Ghana, they shall prosper that love thee

We will continue to keep hope alive, for his covenant is established with us

GHANA, GOD HAS ANOINTED his NATION ALREADY

This is Mother Ghana.

Thank you.
