Nursing And Midwifery Students Embark on Educational Visit to Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research

As part of strategies to enhance the teaching and learning experience of  level 100 nursing and midwifery students and to engage the University A+ agenda, the Department of Nursing and Midwifery (DoNM) together with the leadership of the Nursing and Midwifery Students Association (NAMSA-PU) organized an educational visit for its level 100 students to the Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research (NMIMR) on Wednesday April 13, 2022.

upon arrival, the students were warmly received by the Public Relation Officer (PRO) and her team.

At the NMIMR, the students had the opportunity to learn about the history of the institute and visited all departments in the institute including the newly built Noguchi Advanced Research Laboratory (ARL).

At the departments, students had the occasion to meet the staff of the departments, observe the setup of the laboratories, see modern scientific equipment and also observe and learn some scientific procedures.

The students got the chance to interact with staff and ask questions while some scientific procedures were going on. They also got better understanding  of the methodology behind some scientific procedures and research work that goes on in the departments. They also learnt, observed and practiced some infection prevention and control (IPC) methods.

“We are grateful to the Management and staff of NMIMR for allowing the students to have this experience. We are especially grateful to the PRO and her team for their immense support” – Mr Reginald Arthur, team leader, expressed.

One theme emerged from all the students when they were asked about their experience of the visit. They said, the visit was “amazingly impactful”.
