Profile Summary

Rev. Dr. Emmanuel Foster Asamoah is a Senior Lecturer in New Testament, Mother-Tongue, and Bible Translation at Pentecost University, Accra, Ghana, and currently serves as the Acting Director of the University’s Academic Planning and Quality Assurance Directorate. He is also the Coordinator of the Pentecost Centre for the Study of Unreached People Groups (PCUPGs), Africa; an Adjunct Lecturer in New Testament Studies at Pentecost University, South Africa; and a Research Fellow in the Department of Old and New Testament, Faculty of Theology, Stellenbosch University, South Africa. In addition to his academic responsibilities, he serves as a Home and Urban Missions Pastor in the Achimota Sector of The Church of Pentecost.

Dr. Asamoah is a biblical scholar, educator, researcher, and ordained minister whose principal areas of expertise include New Testament Studies, Mother-Tongue Biblical Hermeneutics, Bible Translation, African Biblical Hermeneutics, and the Bible in African Christianity. He holds a PhD in New Testament Studies from Stellenbosch University, South Africa, and has pursued further academic and professional training in Religious Studies, Theology, Teaching and Learning in Higher Education, and Accountancy. His scholarship is particularly concerned with bridging the gap between biblical texts and contemporary African realities by promoting contextual engagement with Scripture within indigenous languages, cultures, and Christian communities.

Since entering tertiary-level teaching and research, Dr. Asamoah has developed a growing body of scholarship comprising more than 20 peer-reviewed journal articles, conference papers, scholarly reviews, and public theological writings. His publications engage critical questions in New Testament interpretation, Bible translation, Mother-tongue Hermeneutics, Pentecostal theology, African Christianity, leadership, mission, and the relationship between Scripture and African culture. His scholarship reflects a commitment to rigorous biblical exegesis alongside contextual theological reflection.

Dr. Asamoah has also distinguished himself in academic leadership and quality assurance. As Acting Director of Academic Planning and Quality Assurance at Pentecost University, he has contributed to institutional quality assurance, curriculum development, programme accreditation, academic policy implementation, and programme review. Notably, he provided leadership during the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission’s Cyclical Review of Pentecost University in January 2026, coordinating institutional processes aimed at ensuring compliance with national higher education standards.

His commitment to theological education extends to teaching, student mentoring, curriculum development, and ministerial formation. He has taught courses in New Testament Studies, mission, biblical interpretation, theological research, New Testament Greek, Pauline literature, and Mother-Tongue Biblical Hermeneutics. He has also developed courses in Mother-Tongue Biblical Hermeneutics and contributed to the development of the Master of Arts in Missions with specialisation in Unreached People Groups programme at Pentecost University.

Beyond the University, Dr. Asamoah contributes actively to the church, academia, and society. He serves in national leadership roles within The Church of Pentecost, including the Home and Urban Missions and Pentecost Men’s Ministry. He is Editor-in-Chief of the Pentecost Journal of Missions to the Margins, Editorial Chairman of Bible Bridge Ghana, and a reviewer for several theological journals. His ministry and community engagement include outreach to unreached people groups, support for persons affected by substance-use disorders, leadership development, Christian education, and assistance to vulnerable communities.

Through the integration of scholarship, ministry, teaching, administration, and community engagement, Dr. Asamoah seeks to contribute to the development of contextual biblical scholarship and theological education in Africa while mentoring emerging scholars, ministers, and Christian leaders for effective service in the church and society.

• Asamoah serves the wider academic community through peer reviewing, editorial leadership, conference participation, public theological education, and scholarly collaboration. His reviewing engagements include the Stellenbosch Theological Journal, Scriptura, the Pentecost Journal of Theology and Mission, the Journal of Mother-Tongue Biblical Hermeneutics and Theology, and the Dictionary of Pentecostal-Charismatic Biographies.
• As Editorial Chairman of Bible Bridge Ghana, he contributes to the development, editing, and dissemination of biblical literature designed to promote Bible literacy, contextual theological education, and effective Scripture engagement. He also contributes to public scholarship through Christian magazines, church publications, online theological articles, seminars, workshops, and ministerial training initiatives.
• His community service includes providing pastoral and spiritual support to persons struggling with substance-use disorders and assisting them in accessing rehabilitation services. He is also involved in initiatives that provide healthcare assistance, food support, and pastoral care to vulnerable communities.
• Through the Home and Urban Missions of The Church of Pentecost, Dr. Asamoah contributes to ministry among unreached people groups, including Fulani communities, combining Christian mission with education, vocational empowerment, social support, and community development.
• He also facilitates seminars and capacity-building programmes for churches and Christian leaders in Accra and other parts of Ghana, with emphasis on spiritual formation, leadership development, biblical literacy, and effective ministry engagement.

Service to the Nation

Teaching Philosophy

Dr. Asamoah’s teaching philosophy is centred on creating an inclusive and participatory learning environment that encourages intellectual curiosity, critical reflection, and active student engagement. He seeks to uphold rigorous academic standards while helping students engage biblical texts, theological concepts, and scholarly research with clarity and discipline.

His approach integrates theory and practice by connecting biblical and theological knowledge with contemporary ministry, African social realities, mission, leadership, and Christian life. He considers mentorship and character formation integral to theological education and therefore seeks to nurture students intellectually, spiritually, professionally, and ministerially.

He also promotes lifelong learning by encouraging students to develop sustained interest in research, critical inquiry, academic writing, contextual interpretation, and the pursuit of knowledge in service to the church and society.

As a scholar and educator, Dr. Emmanuel Foster Asamoah aspires to contribute significantly to New Testament Studies, Mother-Tongue Biblical Hermeneutics, Bible Translation, and African Biblical Scholarship. His vision is to advance contextual biblical interpretation and theological education while equipping future generations of scholars, ministers, educators, and Christian leaders to engage Scripture responsibly and to make meaningful contributions to the church and society.
